Mrs. Caffey was born 1 May 1871 at Milam County, Texas. She passed away on 9 June 1949 at Abilene, Texas.

Rettie Ann Bates married John L. Caffey in 1886. The couple moved to Carbon in 1904 and then to Stamford in 1914.

Survived by six daughters - Mrs. R.C. Hargy, Eva Westbrook, Mrs. J.C. Swince, Mrs. Vita Paris; five sons - Ervin, Jim, P.W., Morton and Oral Caffey; two sisters - Mrs. Ardill Hill and Mrs. Lila Stone; five brothers - Joe, C.W., Ira, Jess and D.G. Bates; 44 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.
