On 02 NOV 2021, D.G. (Contributor #48341050) kindly provided the following information: William A. Gilbert, 72, died at his home in Phenix City , at 1:50 A.M. Monday after a month's illness. A textile worker , Mr. Gilbert was born in Alabama and had lived there all his life. Surviving are his wife Mrs. Lottie Gilbert; a son Lewis W. Gilbert, Eastman Ga. Three daughters, Mrs. Doris Clark , Phenix City, Mrs. Elmer Sheheane and Mrs. Annie Pearl Clements, both of Columbus; A brother Bob , Dallas Texas; a sister Mrs. Annie Prichard, Rome Ga. [D.G. also submitted suggested edits that W. A. stands for William Asbury, he was called "August," and born in Tallapoosa County.]
04 NOV 2021, also submitted links to parents' memorials. Wm. (aged 3 years) appears at Newsite, Tallapoosa County, AL, in the 1880 census household of parents Wyatt L. GILBERT (50), a farmer, and wife Eliza (37). Other children: John (18), Robt. ["Bob"] (14), Samantha (12), Annie (10), and Asbury (7), all born in Alabama.
On 30 DEC 2021, wrote: The 1880 census is incorrect. Should have been William Asbury age 7 and then Walter Lee age 3. They messed up Walter's name making it look like Wm. Please make people aware of the mistake. The children that attended his funeral support the fact that he was married 3 times (1) Sarah Emma Collins whom he divorced, but I still cannot find proof. Their children were Sadie Mae Gilbert Wells and Annie Pearl Gilbert Clements (2) Minnie Taylor -- Their children Lewis Williams Gilbert, Doris Helen Gilbert Clark and Eleanor Mary Gilbert Sheheana. (3) Martha Ann"Lottie" Coulter He was 71 and she was 78.
