Born in Hamlet, NC to Frank and Lillian Bostian.
Alice lived the last years of her life at Lincoln Nursing Center where she passed away.
Alice's life was devoted to and driven by three primary passions. The first was her love for our Lord and her walk with Him. This manifested itself in her willingness to share her faith and its meaningful depth. The second was her love for her family. Its manifestations include her faithful service in ministry with her late husband, Rev. Elwood Coggin, and her loving support of her immediate and extended family. The driving force behind her husband's success as a composer was Alice's insistence that he share his works with others and the confidence she demonstrated in the gift God had given him. The third was an incessant desire to help others and bring out the best in them. This showed itself in the innumerable people well beyond her family who loved her.
The main thing that made Alice Coggin special stands as a testimony to others. Being a Christian was not something that Alice was. Rather, being a Christian was who Alice was and defined her very identity. As a result, her life was a natural outflow of the Lord's work through an individual and her effect on others, by letting God use her was seen consistently throughout her life. Alice's life saw many accomplishments but every one of them came about because of Alice's faith in our Lord and who she was. Perhaps more important are the countless accomplishments of others that came after the encouragement Alice gave them.
Alice is survived by her sisters Geneva Thrower of Rockingham, NC, Helen Hall of Wilmington, DE, and Edna Wheeler of Hamlet, NC, her children and their spouses, Helen and Howard Mathews of New Bern, NC, Emily and Earl Gulledge of Charlotte, NC, Anita and Don Peach of Lincolnton, NC and Woody and Brenda Coggin of Concord, NC, six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Alice's family and friends will celebrate her life on Sunday, March 1, at 2:30 p.m.in the Mausoleum Chapel at Sharon Memorial Park, 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte, NC. The family will receive friends beginning at 1:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to Charlotte Rescue Mission.
