May 16, 1934--Leslie Washburn, the only son of W.H. Washburn, age 24, was killed three miles west of LaGrange, Ind.. The Greyhound moving van with owner George Hoffman of Houghton was bound for Chicago with goods. The van, driven by Washburn, collided with a large truck killing both men instantly. The bodies were shipped home where the funeral was held with burial in Maple Grove, Gainesville. Mr. Washburn is survived by his wife, Flora Wallace Washburn; two small children; and a sister, Laura (Edward) Ames of Silver Springs.

September 1909, SILVER SPRINGS SIGNAL: Reports that Town of Gainesville Highway Commissioner W.H. Washburn, was the happiest man in town with the arrival at his home on Sunday morning, an eight pound son named Leslie Jordan. His twenty-month old sister was also born on a Sunday.
