Samuel Henry Rumph, "Horticulturist". He pioneered the Georgia peach industry and names the Elberta peach after his 1st., wife Clara Elberta Moore Rumph. He experimented with growning fruit as a youth and began the commercial peach production in Marshallville in the 1870s. He was one of the organizers of the Georgia Horticulturial Society in 1876. On his Willow Lake plantation, he opearated a large nusery with annual sales of seventy thousands dollars attributed to it in 1898.
