Orval's obituary was published in the Globe-Gazette Obituaries, Mason City, Cerro Gordo County, Iowa on May 15, 2000 :

"ORVAL G. JAMTGAARD

CRYSTAL LAKE - Orval G. Jamtgaard, 83, formerly of Crystal Lake, died Saturday (May 13, 2000) at the Nora Springs Care Center, Nora Springs.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church, Crystal Lake, with the Rev. Gary Marzolf officiating. Burial will be in the Crystal Lake cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Ewing Funeral Chapel, Britt, and one hour prior to services at the church. Full military services will be conducted by members of Crystal Lake American Legion Post 409.

Orval, the son of Peder and Inga Stene Jamtgaard, was born Feb. 12, 1917, in Union County, S.D. He was raised in South Dakota and attended country schools there. Following graduation from the eighth grade, he farmed with his father and did part-time farm work for local farmers.

He was united in marriage to Arlene Younie of Hawarden on Oct. 8, 1939. Following their marriage, the couple moved to Sioux City, where he worked for Swift and Company in the pork-curing department.

He was drafted into the military in February of 1944. He served two years with the U.S. Marine Corps and was discharged in January of 1946.

The couple moved to Crystal Lake in February of 1946 where he worked for his brother in the blacksmith business. In October of 1948 he purchased the business from Silas and continued to operate the business until he retired in 1982. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and sports. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, a 50-year member of American Legion Post 409 of Crystal Lake and a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose.

He served as mayor of Crystal Lake for three and one half years. He was a member of the Senior Citizens of Crystal Lake and enjoyed working with them and helping the Legion Post organize the Avenue of Flags for veterans of the area. He enjoyed his family, working with his son, John, for 18 years, and all of his friends and customers.

He is survived by his wife, Arlene; two sons [names deleted]; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, [name delted]; and two brothers, [names deleted].

He was preceded in death by his parents.
