Jesse M. Reeves, son of Hiram and Susan Harper Reeves, married Mary Elizabeth Thornton on January 10, 1877, in Butts County, Georgia.

His parents were married in Pike County, Georgia on October 10, 1838 and last enumerated in the 1880 census of DeKalb County, Alabama.

Hiram Reeves was the son of William (abt. 1785-1850) and Mary Singleton (1785- bef. 1850).

Allen H. Reeves, brother of Jesse's father Hiram, had married Jane Harper, sister of Susan, in Pike County on December 9, 1830.

Allen & Jane Reeves are listed in the 1860 census of Newton County, Mississippi, and are buried there at the Mt. Zion Congregational Methodist Church.

Rev. James Reeves, a widower, married the widow Nancy Harper Phillips on December 18, 1827 in Butts County, Georgia. They are both interred in Carroll County, Georgia, as is the younger brother of Jesse, Charles Henry Reeves.

An 1840 census of Butts County, Georgia, lists the farms of William (30-40 yrs. old), Allen (30-40 yrs. old), and H. (20-30 yrs. old) Reeves. The 1850 census of District 8, Butts County, lists Reeves' households of: William (50 yrs. old) & Letha (58 yrs. old), A. H. (42 yrs. old.) & Jane (41 yrs. old), and Hiram (31 yrs. old) & Susan (33 yrs. old).

The 1900 Federal Census form reflects the birth of Jesse Reeves as having been in May of 1851. Daughter-in-law Ina S. Hollingsworth Reeves, wife of his eldest son Hiram, recorded in her family bible his date of birth as having been May 11, 1851.
