Funeral Rites Set Sunday for James A. Wilkerson Jr., 62, who had been in the state public school system for 40 years, will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at the First Methodist Church in Rockwall, Texas. Burial will also be in Rockwall. Mr. Wilkerson was supervisor of schools in Rockwall County, though he made his home at 8815 Gaston Parkway in Dallas. He died unexpectedly Friday night while visiting in Rockwall.

Mr. Wilkerson, who was born and reared in Rockwall, spent most of his school career in the Rockwall schools. He received his BA degree from North Texas State College, where he was quarterback of the football team, and his MA degree from East Texas State College. He was coach and superintendent at Rockwall for more than 20 years and his football teams won several regional championships in the 1930's. He later went to Farmersville as football coach and had returned to Rockwall several years ago as school supervisor. He was widely known among Texas schoolmen and had only recently attended the National Education Association convention in San Francisco.

He was active in Rockwall civic affairs, having served as president of the Rockwall Chamber of Commerce and the Rockwall Rotary Club and a member of the Rockwall city council. He was an elder in the Presbyterian Church and served as superintendent of the Sunday school at Rockwall. Dr. John Knox Bowling, Pastor of Lakewood Presbyterian Church, and Dr. J. L. Glenn, Pastor of Rockwall Presbyterian Church, will officiate at the services. Mr. Wilkerson is survived by his wife, his mother, Mrs. J. A. Wilkerson of Dallas; two brothers, W. D. Wilkerson of Conroe and R. G. Wilkerson of Fort Worth; and three sisters, Mrs. W. A. Payne and Mrs. Charles E. Ranson Jr., of Dallas and Mrs. L. B. Lucas of Fort Worth.
