Merritt Bradford Adams, second child of James Bradford Adams and Maria H. Tyler, was born Feb. 25, 1852, at Blooming Grove, New York. In 1860, he came with his parents to Garnett and settled 6 ¾ miles NE of town, in Judy neighborhood. He was married on 30 November 1870 to Anna Eliza Wright, who was born about 1850 in Missouri, daughter of Benjamin and Clarissa Wright. She died on 22 August 1877, leaving a daughter Clarissa. On 5 April 1883, Merritt was married to Fanny M. Tyler. She died in March 1929. Their daughter Mabel preceded them on 5 February 1922. Merritt served in U. S. Army Troop 1, 19th Regt. KS. Cavalry, in the Indian War, and again during the Spanish-American War, in Co. F, 6th Regt., California Volunteers. He was survived by his daughter, Mrs. H. C. Sellars, of Hoisington, Kansas. He lived the last five years in Garnett where he died, age 79 years, 11 months, 6 days.
