Birdie Abel

Birdie "Nannie" Abel, age 99 years, passed away June 24, 2012 at the Oak Haven Assisted Living Center in Industry, Texas.

Birdie was born June 24, 1913, in Bellville, Texas to Paul and Bertha (Harms) Mettke. Birdie was raised in Bellville, Texas. On June 12, 1935, Birdie married Andrew Abel in Bellville, Texas. They began their life with his father on the farm until her father-in-law passed away. Four children were born to this union. Andrew passed away in 1970, after which time she became a babysitter and she was known as Nannie Abel all over Bellville.

Birdie was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two brothers and three sisters and infant sister.

Birdie is survived by two daughters, Gloria (Arnold) Havemann of Wallis, Texas and Sheryl Abel of Houston, Texas; two sons Robert Gene (Sheila) Abel of Bellville, Texas and Donald Wayne (Rena) Abel of Latium, Texas; eight grandchildren Charles (Barbara) Havemann and Tracy Kim Semmler, Margaret Lynn (Mark) Boeker, Audra (Ted) Kemper, Andrew Adam Abel, Donald Scott (Melinda) Abel, Amy Rene (Grady) Willhite and Allison Abel; great-grandchildren Charles Cody (Casie) Havemann, Justin William (Candi) Havemann, Shane Kyle Boeker, Rachel Lynn Boeker, Dakota (Megan) Semmler, Scott Ray, Nicole Abel, Donovan Abel, Paige Rene Willhite and Jake Righetti; great-great-grandchildren Peyton Codi Havemann; step-grandchildren Jordan and Paul Bolinger, Shannon (John) Steele; step great grandchildren Amanda, Kelsey, Kaylor Henson; step great-great-grandchildren Kolten and Kody Callaway and Micah Tatum Maxwell.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 28, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Bellville with Rev. David Henske officiating. Interment will be in Oak Knoll Cemetery, Bellville, Texas. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 27, 2012 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Knesek Brothers Funeral Chapel, 842 East Main, Bellville. Pallbearers will be Scott Abel, Adam Abel, Ted Kemper, Mark Boeker, Justin Havemann, Grady Willhite, Charles Havemann, Dakota Semmler, Cody Havemann, Shane Boeker.
