The eldest daughter of James H. Seay and his first wife Mary LNU of Richland County, SC. Married to George Washington Whitecotton she was the mother of six children:
Elizabeth Ann (1850–1860), Martha L (1851–1912), Mary Louise (1851–1906), Celia Georgia (1857–1886, James R (1859–1919), and Napoleon Bonaparte (1861–1937).
Her husband was killed in the Battle of Franklin, Tennessee on 30 Nov 1864,while serving for Company A, 37th Regiment, Georgia Volunteers leaving Mary Louisa a young widow of 37 years. She never remarried.
Mary filed a application for widow's benefits in Murray County, Georgia on 16 Jan 1893, which was not paid until after her death. She was awarded $80, of which was paid $65 to the casket maker and $7 in medical bills.
One child, Celia Georgia Whitecotton married Charles Henry "Charlie" Mitchell.
She had seven "Seay" half-siblings.
