MOUNT VERNON, ILL. -- Former Wabash resident Carl L. Brooks, 77, McCleansboro, Ill., died at 5:55 a.m. Wednesday, January 30, 2002, in Mount Vernon.

He was formerly employed at General Tire, Wabash. He was a World War II U. S. Army veteran and a member of Hopewell Baptist Church.

He was born on Nov. 20, 1924, in McCleansboro, Ill., to Charles Franklin and Agnes (O'Bryan) Brooks. He married Patsy M. Allen on March 25, 1949. She preceded him in death.

Surviving are a son, Barry (Jewell) Brooks, McCleansboro, Ill.; two daughters, Carla Brooks, McCleansboro, Ill, and Sharon Delmar, Oklahoma; one brother, Benjamin Isaac Brooks, Wabash; seven grandchildren; and a special friend, Thora Swafford, West Frankfort, Ill. Five brothers and two sisters are deceased.

Services were held at Gholson Funeral Home, McCleansboro, Ill. Burial was at Digby Hill Cemetery, near Dale, Ill. Graveside military services were conducted by the American Legion Post No. 106.
