Meanwhile, George's first wife Georgia is in a separate household on the 1900 census and reports that she is married. Apparently she and George had split but perhaps they never divorced, so even though George and Ola were living together as husband and wife, they couldn't legally marry until after Georgia's death in 1905? That's speculative though.
1900 federal census of Ward 1 Militia District 773 (Upper Town District), Columbus, Muscogee County, Georgia, Dwelling #253 / Household #296, residing at 1605 Third Avenue (all ABNEY): George (51, born Sept. 1848 AL AL AL), married 10 years, bailiff; wife Viola (27, born Sept. 1872 AL AL AL), married 10 years, had borne 2 children, 1 of them still living); and daughter Durvie (7, born May 1893 GA AL AL).
