Mr. Ashford and my father were close friend. Mr. Ashford had some losses in the banks during the great depression and he would not put any money in the bank again. I remember the day he died my father told us that he had to go to his house and show Mrs. Ashford where he kept his money. He told us that he was the only one whom knew where he hid his savings. My dad went to his home and went into the garage and dug up glass fruit jars buried in the ground with a steel rod sticking up marking each place. I was only seven when he died but I remember the story and the day he died. Mr. Ashford was assigned to the Grand Central train station on the site where the present main United States Post Office is located now on Franklin Street near Smith. I remember being with my dad when he would drive by the Grand Central Station and stop and visit with him. My father was given his handcuffs he carried after he died by his wife.

Officer "Buck" Ashford lived to be 62 years,10 months and 15 days old.
