She was the daughter of Jane Gallegher and James Cafferty. She had a sister Annie in Scotland, Mary in New York and Bessie Cafferty-McGuinness in New York City. She was a housekeeper later on in her life and worked for Dr. Bagg and the Burchill family and the Dowd's, all of Holyoke. When she first came from Ireland she was a factory clerk in the Crocker Mill, a Holyoke Paper Mill. She received her Citizenship Diploma on 22 April 1930. She applied for her social security card on 15 Dec 1936 in Holyoke, Massachusetts. She lived with the McAlpine family since the day she arrived from Ireland and after the McAlpine's were all gone, she spent the remainder of her life living with the family of George J. Bissonnette, Sr. (my parents, my sister Barbara (deceased April 2003) and my brother George (deceased 17 Aug 2017) in Holyoke & Southampton, Ma. She raised my mother, Anna Josephine Mary Brown (McAlpine)-Bissonnette, and helped to raise the three of us from birth until she died.

The birth year on her headstone is wrong. My mother gave funeral home incorrect birth information. I sent for a copy of her social security application and I've listed correct birth date on her cemetery record.

She died in Springfield Municipal Hospital, a few months after being transferred from Holyoke Hospital after suffering a stroke. She never married.
