Verner Nystrom was born November 26, 1921, to August and Anna (Norgaard) Nystrom, north of Estelline, South Dakota. He was the seventh of eight children, growing up northeast of Estelline, graduating from the Wattnem Brick School. On December 31, 1951, Verner married Margaret Simonson, daughter of Henry and Ruby (Burleigh) Simonson at the Estelline Congregation Church. They lived 5 1/2 miles east of Estelline when two sons and a daughter were born. In 1958 they moved to a farm 1 1/4 miles east of Estelline. In 1963, a third son was born. They farmed there until moving into Estelline in January of 1988. He continued farming with his son until retirement in 2000. Verner died on Friday, March 21, 2003 at the Hendricks Hospital in Hendricks, Minnesota at the age of 81 years, 3 months and 25 days.

He was a member of the United Church of Christ in Estelline. He was on the Grange Township Board, Estelline Hospital Board and church boards. He enjoyed farming plus playing city baseball and visiting with friends.

Verner is survived by his wife Margaret of Estelline; three sons, Gary and his wife Cindy of Battle Creek, IA, David and his wife Marceen and Jeff and his wife Lorry, all of Estelline; seven grandchildren; four step grandchildren; six step great grandchildren; two sisters, Stella Moberg of Arlington, SD and Betty Christianson of Bryant, SD; many nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, one brother and one daughter, Jeannette Nystrom
