Don was born Christmas Day, 1932 in Muncie, IN to the late Earl and and Vivian (Cheatham) DeFur.

He was a 1950 graduate of Burris High School, and in 1954 earned his Bachelor's Degree from Indiana University. While at I.U. he was a Senior Manager of 1953-54 NCAA National Championship Basketball Team and was a member of Phi Epsilon Kappa Fraternity and the I Men's Club. Don later furthered his education by attending Ball State University for Graduate Studies.

A significant part of Don's youth was spent attending summers at Culver Military Academy, where during College he returned to teach Sailing.

Don served as a 1st Lieutenant in the United States Army from 1955-1956 during the occupation of Germany.

The majority of his professional career was spent as District Sales Manager for the Oldsmobile Division of G.M., retiring as the Zone Development Manager in 1987. Don had a passionate personal interest in several farms in Indiana and Missouri, which he owned and managed since 1980.

He attended Emmanuel United Methodist Church. Following his retirement he and his loving wife Elna found great enjoyment in Ballroom Dancing to Big Band Music and wide-spread travel.

Don is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 51 years, Elna (Beyler) DeFur; his children, D. Kyle and wife Dana, Colette DeFur Ritter and husband Rock S.; his greatest pride and joy were his grandchildren, Grant Ritter, Drake Ritter, Cameron DeFur and Clayton DeFur.
