LaVaughn was born to parents Rellen Helen (née Stolns) and Roy Baxter West in Morrison, Colorado. Roy abandoned his wife Rellen before LaVaughn was born, and Roy moved back to Texas. She never met him. She was always called LaVaughn by family.

She met and married her husband Bob, and they had three children together in Lyons, Colorado. Later the family moved to Washington. She is on the 1950 Census living in Lyons, Colorado, as she and Bob were still married. She later moved to Los Angeles after divorcing her husband to try and get a career in acting. Later then she took the name of Ann.

She was legally adopted at an early age by my grandfather, Kamel Stolns. Times were hard, and in the depression era, Mom and Dad took the advantage of the fact that Grandpa wanted to adopt her, put her in a private school, and care for her. The Stolns name was added on behind the name West. Kamel raised her, put her in a private Catholic school, and cared for her like his own. For many years we lived on the same property, but in a different house. The 1940 census has her living in the household of Kamel, Mary (his wife), and Roy (Kamel and Mary's son). The census identifies LaVaughn as "daughter". Kamel is the only father she ever knew.

She had three sisters, Betty, Edna, and a living sister, Nita. She also had three brothers, of whom two are deceased in a tragic drowning accident in Boulder, Colorado, and one brother still living. Other family include three grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She passed in Littleton, Colorado, after a lengthly illness and is buried in the Lyons Cemetery in Lyons, Boulder Co, Colorado.

The legal name on her birth certificate is Ann Norma Gertrude LaVaughn West.

*Note on picture she sent me she signed her name LaVaughn*
