John D. Garrison, 68, of Morton, died yesterday at the Veteran's Administration Hospital at Danville. His funeral will be Saturday at the Perry Memorial Home, Morton, the Rev. Don Smith officiating; burial will be in the Parkview Cemetery, Peoria.
Mr. Garrison was born 5-24-1919 in Hamilton County, a son of Herchel and Alma Simpson Garrison. He married Juanita Gammon in 1939 in Morganfield, Ky.; she died 2-13-1973. He married Beatrice Moran on 4-7-1973, in Peoria; she survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Larry, Peoria, and Rick, Tremont; a daughter, Alma Pilkington, Morton; one stepson, Larry J. Embury, Craig, Colo.; one brother, Forrest, Plano, Texas; one step-brother, Eugene Parker, Weematuc; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. A step-brother preceded him in death.
A Private First Class in the Marine Corps during WWII, Mr. Garrison was awarded the Bronze Star in 1986 for bravery in Okinawa.
He had been employed by Peoria City Lines as a bus driver, Peoria Cartage Co., Melvin Trucking Co., Peoria, and last worked at Kammer Concrete Co., Peoria.
He was a member of the Creve Coeur VFW and the Dayton Avenue Baptist Church, Peoria.
