Marie Nordvick, 81, died on Sunday, July 09, 2006 at her home near Grygla, MN.
Funeral service will be held on 11 AM, Friday, July 14, 2006 at Open Arms Christian Fellowship, Seventh-day Adventist Church with Dr. Jerome Bray, Pastor Bill Nixon and Pastor David Fish officiating. Burial will be in the Pony Lake Church Cemetery, Rural Bemidji, MN.
Visitation 5 – 8 PM, Thursday, July 13, 2006 at Johnson Funeral Service, Thief River Falls, MN, with a 7 PM prayer service and for one hour prior to service at the church, Friday.
Marie Jenkauski was born on May 15, 1925, the daughter of John and Cora (Olson) Jenkauski on the family farm near Wilton, MN. She was baptized as a Seventh-day Adventist in her youth through submersion through the ice at a lake near Wilton. Marie attended Scribner Township Country School where she memorized many poems by famous authors such as Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. She recited these poems throughout her life. She graduated from Bemidji High School in 1943. When going to Scribner she would cross country ski to get to school. Following high school she sold Christian books and Bemidji Woolen Mill goods door to door. Marie along with her brother and sister cut the trees used to build the Catholic Church by the North entrance of Itasca State Park.
On September 1, 1946, she was united in marriage to Alvin Nordvick at the Bemidji Seventh-day Adventist Church. The couple made their home on the Nordvick family farm in Eckvoll Township, Marshall Co near Grygla, MN. Together Alvin and Marie raised three children Darold, Alvina and MaryAnn. Marie always helped on the farm. She also for two winters, helped as a camp cook for the logging camp Alvin and her brother, Danny ran in the north east area of Minnesota. In 1978 Marie and Alvin had a house built, she designed the house and acted as the general contractor.
Through the years, Marie planted several hundred trees in her yard. She loved to run the lawnmower and hoe around the trees. Marie loved playing active running games with the kids and grandkids. Her main focus was always her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an active member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, where she taught children's Sabbath School and held other church positions. She taught release time, religious classes for her daughter MaryAnn and Jennifer Hagen. She faithfully read her Bible and had a strong prayer life praying for all her family and grandchildren by name. She helped them to memorize scripture and read the Bible to them. In about 1980 she began to feel the effects of Parkinson's, a disease she courageously lived with for the rest of her life. She continued to play with the grandkids and maintained a very good attitude about life.
Marie is survived by her husband Alvin, Grygla, children Darold (Darcy) Nordvick, Grygla, Alvina (Tim) Rittenour, Grygla, MaryAnn Wollin, Karlstad, MN; grandchildren Holly (Chad) Jessen, Penny (Jose) Castillo, Luke and Katy Nordvick, Nathan, Tammy, Melody, Carl and Friedrich Rittenour, Kayla, Shania, Emma, Sara and Manda Wollin; great grandchildren Oliver and Elias Castillo; nieces and nephews Forrest Anderson, Faye Dudas, Donovan Anderson, Tom Molskness, Leslie Molskness, Larry Molskness, Peggy Mostad and Murial Craig and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by parents, an infant sister, Verna Mary, sister Leonette Anderson Molskness and brother, Daniel Jenkouski.
