Jacob A. Armentrout was born about 1800, Botetourt (now Alleghany) County, Virginia, the son of Frederick Armentrout and Elizabeth Wolfe. Jacob had eight siblings: Mary Elizabeth Armentrout, George W. Armentrout, Catherine E. Armentrout, John W. Armentrout, Abraham Armentrout, Joseph Abraham Armentrout, Elizabeth S. Armentrout and Sarah B. Armentrout.

Jacob Armentrout married Catherine Arritt 24 OCT 1822, Alleghany County, Virginia, the daughter of Michael Arritt and Mary Magdalene Wolfe. They had four children: George F. Armentrout, Mary Ann Elizabeth Armentrout, Joanna R. Armentrout and Michael J. Armentrout. Jacob was a farmer and resided in Alleghany County, Virginia.
