Joan K. Ridgway died on Thursday, Sept. 1, 1994, at Baylor Medical center-Ellis County at Waxahachie.
Joan was born Oct. 28, 1936, in Port Arthur to H
Jesse W. and Vera Nelson. She graduated from Waxahachie High school and continued her education at a business college. Later, she married on July 10, 1960, in Waxahachie, to Billy Joe Ridgway.
She was a member of the Waxahachie Doll Club, a 4-H adult leader and Boy Scout troop den mother. She was also a member of the Ellis County Riding Club and had served as an officer in that organization.
She is survived by her husband, Billy Joe Ridgway of Waxahachie; mother, Vera Nelson of Troup; sons, Clint and Matt Ridgway of Waxahachie; also son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Veronica Ridgway of Waxahachie; daughter Mary Ridgway of Waxahachie and daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Alan Been of Morton; two sisters, Linda Ellis of Bullard and Judy Nelson of Troup; five grandchildren; five nephews and one niece; and a multitude of friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Jesse W. Nelson.
The service is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 3, at 3 p.m. at the Waxahachie Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mike Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Maypearl Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Bill Ratcliff, Ervin Bledsoe, Sammy Sampson, Danny Acevedo, Horace Bratcher and Jeff Eastman. Honorary pallbearers are Robert Trevino and Randy Smith.
The family will receive friends tonight, Sept. 2, at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Waxahachie Funeral Home.
