Stephen Martin Faughnder, Union, Missouri, son of George and Sarah (Johnson) Faughnder, was born on September 25, 1887. He had been away from home for over ten years and was farming on Rural Route 1, Modoc, Randolph County, Illinois, when called to military service on June 24, 1918, and served as Private 18th Co. 159 Depot Brigade at Camp Zachary Taylor, Louisville, Kentucky, where he died of pneumonia on October 7, 1918, and was buried in grave no. 4,805, Cave Hill National Cemetery, Louisville.
