Laura Kathryn Avery Hester, 38, died Saturday, Jan. 10, 2009, at Northwest Medical Center, in Winfield, Ala.
She was born June 25, 1970, in Midway Island, Hawaii to Faye Howard Avery and Rev. Danny W. Avery.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday from Calvert Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Danny Avery officiating. Burial will follow in Brooksville Cemetery in Brooksville. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is in charge of arrangements.
She enjoyed a rare beginning to her life, being one of the few people in this world ever born at Naval Station, Midway Island. She started life there and remained true to form with more rare accomplishments throughout her life.
As a Navy brat, she moved with the family several times in early childhood, finally settling in Starkville where she completed Grammar, Junior and Senior high school.
She was a Registered Nurse for 12 years, recently working as a Home Health Nurse for Gilbert Home Health.
She was annually honored as a Class Favorite throughout her high school years, was Miss SHS her Senior year, Cheerleader Captain her junior year and an NCA All American Cheerleader her Senior year.
She began her Collegiate years at Mississippi State, majoring in Interior Design, but yielded to her true desire for serving others in life by transferring to MUW, where she completed her Bachelor's in Nursing, became an Registered Nurse, and worked for a number of years in Home Health Care, where her patients realized excellence in care, compassion and concern.
The hallmark of her patient care and popularity was a keen sense of humor that enabled her to see the positive side of almost every circumstance in life.
She was naturally gifted in music, and became Church Musician in churches pastored by her Dad starting at age 10, before her feet even reached the pedals.
She was a Member of Brooksville Baptist Church.
She was wed to David Hester of Sulligent in May 1992, and they were Blessed with three beautiful children: Jon David, Jerrin and Jayci.
