Left the Ukraine and moved to Germany. In Germany they were in Camp Ohio in Burgdorf, a camp for displaced persons due to WW II, until they were able to immigrate to Brazil. In 1958 the family came to Philadelphia, and in 1960 moved to Syracuse, NY to join his daughter Cecilia Bochan. He worked as a custodian in the State Tower Building until he retired.
Grandpa was a strong and loving person. I still remember the smell of his cherry tobacco in his pipe. He was a skilled person and loved working with his hands.
Our family was an extended family. When my mother left my Father Walter Dankiw, Mother and the 3 kids lived with Grandma and Grandpa. My mother Anastasia Makosij Dankiw Schell and Ivan worked. Anna, Ivan's wife, took care of the house and the kids. We were poor but well taken care of and loved.
