S/Sgt. Casle Grove was born on January 17, 1919 and was killed in action on July 27, 1944 in Normandy, France, the son of Philip and Pauline (Hoad) Grove. He married Ada Catherine Miles on January 2, 1942.
Casle served in the Armed forces for a little over three years, achieving the rank of S/Sgt. He was sent to England and was then sent to France to help in the tank drive from the Normandy coast with the 33rd Armored Regiment of the Third Armored Division with General George Patton, and helped break through the German lines. He was first reported as seriously wounded and then it was reported that he had died of his wounds.
Casle's body was returned to Chicago on June 2, 1948 and was taken to the Emmons Funeral home to remain until June 5th when it was taken to the home of his father and from there to the Petty Church where funeral services were held on June 6, 1948. S/Sgt Grove was accorded full military honors by veterans at the adjoining cemetery.
