While a young man, he moved to the vicinity of Claremore, Oklahoma. He married Carrie Eva Francis on May 21, 1917. She passed away April 8, 1955. Claude married Myrta Ellen Foster on October 7, 1955. They were married until Claude's death.
During the early years of his life, he worked for the Cosden Oil Co. of Tulsa, but later was employed for many years by the Union Pacific Railroad located in Cheyenne, WY and Portland, OR.
While in Portland, he was injured and compeled to retire. After retiring, he returned to Oklahoma where he spent the rest of his life.
Mr. Steele had two patented inventions:
11-19-1929 - Cotton Planter Attachment, Patent #1736380
5-25-1934 - Hill Dropping Attachment for Planters, Patent #1958868
Both inventions were sold to International Harvester. At the time of his death, he was working on another invention.
He died at his home after a long illness.
