Russian princess. She studied at St. Petersburg Theatre School and graduated into the Maryinsky Ballet in 1895, a year later marrying the famous character dancer Jozef Kshessinsky (brother to the ballerina Kshessinskaya). She danced for Diaghilev 1909-11. Later she opened London Ballet School. Such famous British ballet dancers as Rambert, Fonteyn, Markova, and Dolin were all taught by her.
