Marty was the son of Ralph R. & Fae A. (Eckert) Erney and husband to Lorraine M. (Falatko) Erney. They were married June 5, 1982. They had three children. He worked at Mack Trucks for 17 years and then was owner/operator of Erney Landscaping in Zionsville, PA. Marty graduated from William Allen High School in 1971 where he was a standout athlete. He was a great hitter in baseball but was an even better pitcher. Longtime Mountainville coach and Pennsylvania American Legion Baseball Hall of Famer Russ Reinhard called Marty the best pitcher he ever coached. Marty was also the quarterback for the Stroh's Pennsylvania state championship flag football teams in the 1980's which also finished as national runnerup two times. He later coached little league baseball, football, girls basketball and softball and loved fishing in the Outer Banks in North Carolina. He was also an avid hiker and Pittsburgh Steelers football fan.
