Born near Lawrence, Sharp County line, exactly location unknown, reportedly in field corner of fence row. Raised by Martha Parsley Shannon Hopkins after Thomas Hopkins left her, moved to Missouri and remarried. There has yet not been any DNA confirmation of biological descendancy from either Thomas Hopkins or Martha Parsley. Her maternal line mtDNA through the daughter of one of Rachel's daughters, does not show Native American blood. Therefore, it appears to exist either on her paternal side, or on her maternal grandfather's side, if oral history is correct.
