Dorcas E. Smoker, age 85 of Fairmount Homes, Ephrata, formerly of Parkesburg, passed away at Fairmount Homes on Saturday, December 19, 2008. She was the wife of Omer S. Smoker of Fairmount Homes with whom she celebrated 62 years of marriage on February 16th of this year.
She was born in Atglen, daughter of the late Daniel S. & Annie Engel Kauffman. She was a member of Millwood Mennonite Church of Gap where she was involved with the church sewing circle. In the past she had taught Summer Bible School at the Newlinville Mennonite Church of Coatesville. In the past she worked at Hershey's Farm Market of Parkesburg.
Dorcas enjoyed quilting, cooking, gardening and playing games with her grandchildren. She volunteered at the Coatesville Re-uzit Shop.
Surviving besides her husband are 3 sons: Kenneth husband of Joyce Nissley Smoker of Parkesburg, Marlin husband of Judy Siegrist Smoker of Strasburg, Allen husband of Susan Stoltzfus Smoker of Parkesburg, 7 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, 2 siblings: Hannah Stoltzfus of Lititz, Melvin Kauffman of Parkesburg. She was preceded in death by 6 siblings: Ammon, Mary Daniel, Jr. and Aaron Kauffman, Florence Blank, Esther Naomi Smoker.
Funeral service will take place from the Millwood Mennonite Church, 441 Amish Road, Gap, PA on Tuesday, December 23rd at 11 a.m. with Pastor Menno Fisher, Pastor Michael Yoder, Pastor Keith Beiler officiating. There will be a viewing on Monday evening (TONIGHT) from 6 to 8 p.m. and also on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until time of service. The interment will be in the adjoining church cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to M.C.C., P.O. Box 500, Akron, PA 17501. Arrangements by the Shivery Funeral Home, Christiana & Paradise.
