Alberta "Bertie" L. Edgell, 77, of the Hoult-Sanford Community in Fairmont, passed away Saturday (Nov. 29, 2008) at the Commons Nursing Home in Squirrel Hill, Pa., following a long illness. She had also resided at The Arbors of Fairmont for a long period of time. She was born in Fairmont on Oct. 29, 1931, a daughter of the late Rebecca Summers Harrold of Montana Mines. She was preceded in death by her husband, William F. Edgell. Bertie retired from Westinghouse-North American Philips where she worked in the seal beam department for 41 years. She enjoyed spending time with her family and her dog Baby. She also loved crocheting, sewing, crafts, baking and watching Animal Planet. She is survived by: her two daughters and son-in-law, Georgia Harris Spurling and her husband Frederick of Huntingburg, Ind. and Rebecca Harris Long of Fairmont; five grandchildren, Rebecca "Peanut" Burton of Fairmont, Georganne Long of Fairmont, Leah Edgell of Texas, Christina Spurling and her three children who resided with Bertie in the Hoult-Sanford Community, taking care of her until her illness worsened, and Chad Spurling and his wife Stacy of Sumter, S.C.; two step grandchildren, Thomas Long of Clarksburg and Nancy Long of Fairmont; 13 great-grandchildren, several great great-grandchildren and six nieces and two nephews. In addition to her mother and her husband, Bertie was preceded in death by her brothers, Harry Harrold and George Harrold; her sister, Cass Harrold; and her son-in-law, Thomas Long. Friends may call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont from 5-9 p.m. today and from 9-2 p.m. Wednesday. Services will be held at the funeral home at 2 p.m. Wednesday with Pastor Danny Blake officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Martin Cemetery.
