Max was born on April 4, 1947, in El Paso, to Max Allen Ratcliff Sr. and Dorothy Marie (Hill) Ratcliff. He moved to Whitney in 1950. Max graduated from Whitney High School in 1965. Max attended the University of Texas at Austin and loved the Longhorns. Max became a Mason on Nov. 16, 1979, in Houston. He served 29 years as a dedicated Masonic member. He served as worshipful master of Whitney #355 in 1992, and worshipful master of Anadahko #176 in 2006, as well as other numerous offices. Max was a loving father of three children and five grandchildren. Max enjoyed fishing and hunting and spent many days teaching his grandchildren to fish or just catching minnows out of the minnow bucket. Max was a respected and loved person through out the community and will be missed by many. He was a father, grandfather and wonderful friend. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Whitney and a man of strong faith and stood fast even during his last days on earth because he knew Jesus has prepared a place for him in heaven.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Max Allen Ratcliff, Sr. and Dorothy Marie (Hill) Ratcliff. Survivors include a daughter, Krissi Hightower and husband Brandon; a son, Nicholas Ratcliff; a daughter. Jade McCurdy and husband Rusty; grandchildren Skyleigh Ratcliff, Gage Hightower, Taelyn McCurdy, McKena Hightower and Raley Jo McCurdy; the mother of his three children, Sheila Ratcliff; cousins Diane Meeks and husband Daryl and their children, Holly and Ryan, Dwayne Lynn and wife Sherri; and numerous other cousins.
