Henry S. Landis - died on Tuesday afternoon at the home of his son-in-law, Charles W. Bitner, No. 623 First street. He was in his seventy-eighth year and had been in ill health for some time. At the outbreak of the Civil War he enlisted in Company D, Fifth Pennsylvania Reserves. Later he re-enlisted in the Twentieth Pennsylvania cavalry, in which he remained until the close of the war. These children survive: Henry S. Landis, Chester county; Phillip Landis, Roxborough; Mrs. Sarah Goodman, of Baltimore; U. S. Grant Landis, a bridge builder, of the West; Mrs. Clara Bitner, at home; Mrs. Alice F. Smith, of Lancaster; Mrs. Ada Krewsom, of Lancaster; Isaac F. Landis, of Lancaster; Garfield Landis, of Allentown; Mrs. Anna Sheaffer, of Lancaster, and Joseph Landis, of Detroit. Isaac S. Landis, of Landis Valley, is a brother and Mrs. John D. Brubaker, who resides near Hambright's, is a sister of the deceased. Brief funeral services will be held from his late home at 1 p.m. on Saturday, with further services in the Mennonite church at Landis Valley at 2 o'clock.
