Larry G. Lamb

Service for Larry G. Lamb will be 2 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 18, 2008, at Tiawah Community Baptist Church, in Tiawah. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery under the direction of Rice Funeral Service. Visitation will be Wednesday, Dec. 17, from 2 p.m.-6 p.m., with family receiving friends from 6 p.m.-8 p.m.

Larry went to be with his Heavenly Father on Sunday, Dec. 14, 2008, with his loving wife, Sue by his side.

Born April 15, 1946, in Claremore, to N. D. "Jake" and Ruth (Kirkley) Lamb, Larry was reared and educated in Claremore for seven years, attending Tiawah for a year before completing his education in Inola, graduating with the class of ‘64.

Following his schooling, he enlisted in the Army, spending most of his service time in Germany. When Larry was honorably discharged from his duties, he returned to Claremore and worked for Flint Steel and the City of Claremore before going to work for Steve Lamb Painting, where he was a house painter and paper hanger.

Larry married Sue Zevely on April 4, 1969, in a Claremore ceremony. The couple made their home in Tiawah and was blessed with two daughters, Melissa Michelle and Melanie Monique.

In 1987 Larry was licensed into the ministry by Willieo Baptist Church. His passion was working with the youth and spent many years as a youth leader, taking the kids to Falls Creek Camps.

When Larry wasn't hard at work, he could be found coaching his daughters softball teams or camping with his family. His favorite camp spot was on Spring Creek near Peggs, where they would catch crawdads. But those annual trips to Colorado, hunting, were looked forward to each year. Larry enjoyed making a garden and sharing its bounty. He spent many hours reading and studying his Bible, which brought him great strength. This knowledge he shared with the residents at Inola Nursing Home, leading their Sunday afternoon services. Another of Larry's hobbies was setting up targets at Blackards 3-D archery range. Keeping his bow hunting skills honed, Larry was a member of the Rogers County Bow Hunters Association.

Larry never knew a stranger, young or old he had the ability to make friends with everyone. A wonderful husband, father, papa, brother and friend will be missed by all who knew him.

Those that survive include his wife Sue of their home; his daughters, Missie Killgore and husband Scott of Shawnee, and Melanie Copeland and husband Wayne of Claremore; his grandchildren, Nathan Wayne and Sydney Ruthann Copeland of Claremore and Creed Davidson and Cayne Hollister Killgore of Shawnee; his brothers, Steve Lamb and wife Georgia and Danny Lamb all of Claremore, Johnny Lamb and wife Linda of Bartlesville; sister-in-law Joy Walker and husband Jim of Tulsa; his uncles, Jim and Leo Kirkley of Claremore and Lowell Kirkley of Temple, Texas; his aunts, Doris Stender and Dee Lamb both of Claremore and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and sisters, Barbara Lamb and Betty Bazille.
