Mrs. Jane Baude Dies Wednesday; Rites on Friday

Mrs. Jane O'Brien Baude, 61, a former local resident, died Wednesday at 11 a.m. at her home in Topeka following an extended illness.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 3:30 p.m. in the Penwell-Gable Funeral Chapel in Topeka. Graveside services will be held in Mount Hope Cemetery at 11 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. Maclude Stillwell, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be under the direction of the Webb Funeral Home.

The family suggest memorial contributions to the Cancer Fund. They will be received at the Webb Chapel here. The casket has been closed.

Mrs. Jane O'Brien Baude was born in March, 1922, at Independence, the daughter of Oscar . and Naomi (Fowler) O'Brien. She was a graduate of Independence schools and received her AB and master's degrees at the University of Kansas. She later attended Northwestern University and the University of CHicago and also studied at the Sorbornne School in Paris, France.

She was an instructor of French at Washburn University and in 1967 became an assistance professor in the French Department there.

Mrs. Baude was a member of P.E.O., Phi Beta Kappa, honorary society, and the American Association of Teachers of French.

She married Dr. Andre Baude of Chateau Thierry, France in 1936 and he survives at the home in Topeka.

Also surviving are two sons, Patrick of Bloominton, Indiana and Richard of Altadena, California and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, John O'Brien and her parents.
