As a recording artist, she was nominated for the best folk music Grammy award for her albums "Odetta Sings Folk Songs" (1963), "Blues Everywhere I Go" (1999) and "Gonna Let It Shine" (2005). During her career she also acted in several films to include "Cinerama Holiday" (1955), "Sanctuary" (1961) and "The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman" (1974). In 1999, President Bill Clinton presented her with the National Medal of the Arts Award and the Library of Congress, Washington D.C. honored her with its Living Legend Award in 2005.
