Born in Sumpter, TX to Judge William Rogers and his wife, the family moved to Pennington when it changed to the county seat. William taught school in Pennington for five years, afterwhich he started a mercantile business. He married in Nov. 25, 1900 to Alice Fairnettie Lewis, daughter of John Wright Lewis and Alice West Lewis of Pennington, Texas. In 1911, they moved with their three daughters to Groveton where he continued with his mercantile business. They had two sons in Groveton. Their five children were Alice Ferol, Cynthia I., Nettie Lucille, William Rolf, and John Robert. From 1924-1935, he served on the Groveton City Council.
