Betty Whitten, 56, of 108 Boblett Ave., Beckley, formerly of Oceana, died Saturday, Oct. 26, 1996, at her home following a long battle with cancer.

Born Feb. 21, 1940, in Wyoming County, she was the daughter of Ottaway "Ott" Marshall Walker (1917-1987) & Dora V. Brown-Walker (1920-2000).

Mrs. Whitten was a member of the Toneda Baptist Church, was a 1958 graduate of Oceana High School, and was a real estate agent with Century 21, Cashion and Toler Real Estate Inc. Agency, Beckley.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Marshall Walker (1953-1983); maternal grandparents, William "Elmer" Brown (1892-1958) and Susan "Susie" Bailey-Brown (1899-1991) and paternal grandparents, Jacob "Jake" Walker (1874-1959) and Millie Morgan-Walker (1877-1946).

Other survivors include her husband, Lindsey Frank Whitten (B. 1942) whom she married on April 16, 1960 in Oceana, Wyoming County, WV (per WV Marriage License Register, Wyoming County, WV, 1960, Page 293, Application Date: April 9, 1960).; two sons, Darren Whitten and his wife, Kathy, of Pineville and Derek Whitten and his wife, Belinda, of Oceana; a brother, Raymond Walker and his wife, Susie, of Oceana; two sisters, Ellen Walker-Brown and her husband, Leroy Brown, of Kopperston and Phyllis Walker-Baber and Bob Heneger of Myrtle Beach, SC; four grandchildren, Megan, Travis, Chelsea, and Zachary; three nieces and two nephews.

Services will be 11 a.m. today at the Toneda Baptist Church with the Revs. Doc Adkins, Ron Lee, and Dwight Stafford officiating. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny.
