Pearl D. Painter, 86, of Hot Springs, SD passed away September 16, 2008 at the Castle Manor Nursing Home in Hot Springs.
Pearl was born July 23, 1922 in Yankton, SD to Richard Melvin and Dorothy Johanna (Nelson) Jelle.

In 1926 she moved with her parents; brother, Ray and sister, Gloria to Hot Springs. Her father, a WWI veteran, built a home on 5th Street where she lived until she was married. On September 18, 1943 Pearl married Ray M. Painter of Custer, SD. They enjoyed the Air Force life style and traveled the world until Ray retired. They settled in Hemet, CA where Ray passed away December 15, 1981. She continued to live in Hemet and enjoyed her church, family and friends.

In September 2005 Pearl moved to Hot Springs where she resided at Castle Manor for the past three years. She was very happy to be back home in the beautiful Black Hills where she belongs. Pearl was a very fine strong woman who loved deeply, she had a dry sense of humor, a green thumb and enjoyed life. Pearl will be missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Gayle and Steven Sutter of Custer, SD; granddaughters, Jennifer Stewart; Kellie Raby and Christina Rinks; great grandchildren, Ethan Raby; Kavan Raby; Alex Stewart; Ahren Raby and Gierik Raby.

Pearl was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son; brother and sister.

Memorial Services will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 20, 2008 at McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Custer, SD with Pastor Morris Nelson officiating. Interment will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery in Hot Springs.

Arrangements have been placed in the care of McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Custer
