Mr. Wheeler served as an officer in the Arkansas National Guard and the United States Army. He served three combat tours in Vietnam and retired from the military with the rank of lieutenant colonel. He was a member of the National Rifle Assoication, S.A.S.S. and a former member of the Quorum Court and the Berryville Zoning Committee.
He is survived by two sons, James Wyatt Wheeler of Berryville, and Wade Carter Wheeler and wife Kimberly of Portland, Ore.; one daughter, Wendy Marie (Wheeler) Weege of Berryville; two grandsons, Eli James Wheeler and Maxwell Carter Wheeler of Portland, Ore.; two granddaughters, Eva Marie Weege and Grace Lou Weege of Berryville; former wife, Eva Marie Reeve of Berryville; and many other relatives and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his grandparents, A.L. and Emma Hanby and H.E. and Ina Tabor.
A Gathering of Friends and Memorial Services were held on Saturday, Nov. 15at the Charles M. Nelson Memorial Chapel in Berryville. Military Honors were conducted at the Berryville Memorial Park Cemetery. Cremation was under the direction of Nelson Funeral Service Inc.
