Dora Viola Baker of Roseburg, Oregon, went safely home to the Lord on Sunday, November 16, 2008, at the age of 90. She was born May 28, 1918, in Edison, Nebraska, the daughter of Charles and Jennie (Mishler) Smith. Dora moved as a young girl with her family to Santa Cruz, California, where she was raised and educated. While attending college in Los Angeles, California, she met Herbert Maydew and they were married on January 26, 1938. They made their home in Lomita, California, where they lived for many years. In 1975, they moved to Glide, Oregon. Herbert passed away in 1994, Dora later met William 'Pete' Baker at church and they were married in 1997. Pete passed away in 2006. Dora loved her family, enjoyed knitting and other crafts, liked to cook for everybody, played wonderful games with her grandchildren, and created the loving atmosphere that made our house into a home. But above all she loved her Lord and serving Him. She was a member of the Cornerstone Family Fellowship Church. Dora is survived by two daughters, Charlene Goodemote of Glide, and Gerrie Gates of Roseburg, and her much loved son-in-law, Tom Goodemote. She also leaves two brothers, Max Smith and wife, Joan and James Smith and wife, Hope, both of Oroville, California; as well as two sisters, Barbara Turnbough and husband, Sam of Fall Brook, California, and Olive Mesiroff and husband, Dan of Chico, California. Grandchildren include, Ken Horton of Pasadena, California; Jacki Griffiths of Glendora, California; Dora Lynnette Davis of Roseburg; Jim Horton of Monrovia, California; Kathleen Mickey of Winston, Oregon; Vicki Coya of San Dimas, California, and Richard Gates of Roseburg. Dora has also been blessed with 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
