Herman Riddle, Son of Rella Ricks Riddle and John Riddle, loving husband of 63 years to Annie Sprouse Riddle b. Aug. 26th, 1921 d. April 27th, 2008, to that marriage were 8 children, 3 of the 8 passing before them. Herman was a lifelong resident of Alabama and a member of Second Baptist Church. He was employed at King Stove and Range in Sheffield Ala. for thirty some odd years until it closed in the 1970's, and also while holding down that job he held down a second job at Southland Restaurant, Where my Mom was employed. After the Stove foundry closed Dad went to work for his best friend, H.D. Kennemore, Kennemore Coal Co, delivering coal. Dad worked there until H.D. passed and Mrs H.D sold out. Dad was a great Father and he labored hard to support his family. He worked as a roofer(subcontractor)Riddle's Roofing with his 2 sons up until the age of 75. Dad was the type man who never met a stranger, He would give you the shirt off his back and help anyone in need. Dad was known in the neighborhood for being one of the best shade tree mechanics around and believe me you, under our big oak was never bare! I remember how Mom use to complain and nag at Dad to stop working on cars, She hated the greasy sink and bath clean up! but, Dad always use to say "but Ann, that's Mr. So and So's car and He's going to pay me Friday". Friday would roll around, the car would be gone, and Dad's greasy hands still empty. That's my Dad, Kind, loving, considerate of others, free hearted Dad!
