The following is an exact quotation from an obituary published in the Boswell Times, Boswell, OK., (probably) October 31, 1934.
"DEATH OF J.A. FARRIS"
John Alexander Farris, age 81 years, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Clyde Shelton, of Paris, Texas, on Monday, Oct. 29. Mr. Farris had been sick two months, and at times he was thought to be better, but finally his body could no longer survive the disease afflicting him. The funeral service was held in the local Methodist church Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. H.M. Cosby, pastor, conducted the service, assisted by Rev. J.M. Messer, pastor of the Nazarene Church, and Rev. Howard Moore, pastor of the Baptist church. Thoughtful friends gave and arranged many beautiful floral designs. Besides the touching songs by the choir, a special quartette sung at the request of the family. "Where We Never Grow Old" was sung by Mrs. Harry Craig, Mrs. George Yoe, Rev. H.M. Cosby and Dr. C.H. Hale. Close neighbors of the deceased acted as pallbearers. Interment was made in the Boswell Cemetery and the Senner Funeral Home of Hugo had charge of the burial arrangements.
John Alexander Farris was born on February 20, 1853, in Maury county, TN. He was united in marriage with Miss Dora Hamilton on February 28,1879, at Adamsville, Tenn. To this union were born three boys and four girls, all living but one, Mrs. L.L. Adkins, who preceded her father in death 20 years ago. His wife and the following children survive: John Farris, Tigertown, Texas; Mrs. Clyde Shelton, Paris, Texas; Lee Norris Farris of Gracemont, Okla., and Mrs. J.L. Stewart, Miss Imogene Farris and Clifton Farris of Boswell; also 15 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He was converted in 1884 and united with the Cumberland Presbyterian church and remained a member of this church until he passed away. Mr. Farris had lived in Boswell more than 20 years and there are many who will miss him. The News extends condolence to the bereaved family."
