Thomas L. Wicks was born on Wednesday, September 8, 1937 in Indianapolis, Indiana.

He made his journey home to the arms of our Heavenly Father, Sunday November 16, 2008 after fighting over an 8 1/2 month battle with two different types of cancer.

He was one of five children born to the late William and Alma (Schoeneman) Wicks.

In September of 1999, Tom retired from Amtrak Railroad in Beech Grove, after 34 years of service.

He married Ruth W. Hickman on Valentines Day, February 14, 1981. He was the step-father of her son, John M. Hickman.

He was also step-father of three children from his 1st marriage with Virginia Murray. Linda Hendrickson and Jean Scalf who survive, Steven Murray who was killed in duty while serving in Vietnam.

He is survived by his loving wife, Ruth; a brother, Calvin Wicks and a sister, Ruth Criss.

He was proceeded in death by his parents; a brother, Clyde Wicks and sister, Wilma Oberley.

Tom was a caring and devoted husband, and will be deeply missed by his family and friends. He was always there to lend a helping hand to neighbors or anyone in need.

Funeral services were Wednesday, November 19th at Legacy Funeral Center with Rev. Doug Litsey.

Military Honors were given and the special "Dove Release" was presented.

Today we had one of our biggest snow falls, leaving us with 12 1/2 inches. When I looked out the windows this morning at 6:00 AM, I thought to myself……… Tom will be raising the garage door any minute now and out he will go to plow out everyone's driveway, as he had always done.

His compassion for helping people and making life a bit easier is one unique trait that made him so very special. Each time we would have a snow fall, he would bundle up nice & warm and plow out the driveways of all 5 houses on our block, including the street.

Thanks to my wonderful neighbors, this winter (2008) they are looking out for me. It is no doubt their way of showing their appreciation and thanks, for all the help he gave to others throughout the years.

This weekend we just had our biggest snow fall ever -- here at our house we had 11.7 to 12 inches.

During this winter snow fall our temperatures dropped to a -40 below wind chill........ now that was "COLD".

Dave got me dug out on Wednesday. What a wonderful man and good neighbor he is.

Also, Walt has been so dear to plow my driveway & do other things for me as well.

Buddy & Sarah do so much for me too. They watch over me, & always tell me if there is anything I need - just call them.

I certainly am Blessed to have such good neighbors.

Today, August 27, 2002 I replaced our original marker with a nice up-right one. I always wanted a beautiful "up-right" marker for us both and now we have one.

Love you and miss you every day!
