He was born Aug. 27, 1919, in Clarksburg, W.Va., the only child of Paul M. Sr. and Eugenia Virginia Kenney Baker. He married Lola J. Criss on June 20, 1941, in Petersburg, Va., and she survives.
He is also survived by two daughters, Sharon A. Billingsley (husband, Larry) of Raytown, Mo., and Kathryn S. Stafford (husband, Eddie) of Jacksonville; three grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and four stepgreat-grandchildren.
Mr. Baker was a graduate of Washington Irving High School in Clarksburg, W.Va. He proudly served from 1941 to 1945 in the U.S. Army during World War II with the U.S. Cavalry's 29th Battalion and as a part of the occupation forces in Japan and the Philippines. He retired following many years associated with Home Lumber and Supply Company of Ashland, Kan. An avid golfer and talented artist, Mr. Baker was interested in a variety of the fine and graphic arts. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Ashland, Kan., where he formerly served as a trustee and elder.
Cremation rites have been accorded. Private family memorial services will be held at a later date. Military honors and interment was held 1 p.m. Tuesday, November 18, 2008 at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield. Memorial gifts are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association. The Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home (West State Chapel) in Jacksonville is in charge of the arrangements.
