Laura Ruth Lignitz, age 53, of Houston, Texas, died November 9, 2008, at her residence of natural causes.

She was born December 3, 1954, in Manhattan, the daughter of Arlo R. and Ruth E. (Anderson) Lignitz. She graduated from Manhattan High School and then attended Kansas State University for three years in radio & television.

Laura had lived in Manhattan, KS, Pratt, KS, Wichita, KS, and Columbus, Georgia, prior to settling in Houston in 1980.

She loved to write, play the cello, raise her children and had a wonderful sense of humor.

Laura grew up in the College Avenue United Methodist Church in Manhattan and had been a member of Bear Creek United Methodist Church in Houston.

Survivors include three children: Adam Musil and his wife Cynthia of Austin, TX, and William Musil and Sarah Musil both of Houston; her mother, Ruth Lignitz of Manhattan, KS; five sisters, Nancy Lignitz of Olathe, KS, Margaret Lignitz of Denver, CO, Susan Durbin and her husband Ron of Newark, DE, Ingrid Lindsey and her husband Sean of Raytown, MO, and Amy Harken and her husband Bruce of Independence, MO; three brothers: John Lignitz and his wife Mary, Robert Lignitz and his wife Trudy, and Frank Lignitz and his wife Laura all of Manhattan; two grandchildren: Nicholas Musil and Skylar Williams; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Cremation is planned with memorial services to be held at 1:00 pm Wednesday at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel with Reverend Neil Engle officiating. Graveside services will be held at 4:00 pm Wednesday at the Haddam City Cemetery in Haddam, KS.

The family of Ms. Lignitz will recieve friends from 7:00 until 8:00 pm Tuesday at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home.
