My beloved Aunt Jean

Aunt Jean to me was always someone that could make me laugh. She was my mom's youngest sister, the baby of the Preston girls. She never knew her sister Dorothy. Being the youngest I think was sometimes extra hard for Aunt Jean. When my mom and Aunt Marian were born, their dad was around alot. The country was between wars and grandpa and grandma were around for their older daughters. By the time my aunt Jean was born, we were heading for WWII and my grandpa re-enlisted in the Navy. Between having her dad off on a Destroyer someplace in the Atlantic, her older sisters off dating and starting jobs and her mom trying to keep the family together it coudn't have been the easiest life to have. Being the youngest in the family can be lonely espeically when everyone is years older than you are. I was pretty much the same growing up. Being the baby often left a ill feeling of always being excluded. I think deep down that was a connection my aunt and I shared, that no one ever could see or understand. I know she saw it in the way she treated me. Never talking down to me, always treating me like I was older and a part of the family. I know she had problems, but I loved her. I may have understood her better than her sons or sisters could when it came to some things. When my grandparents passed our family drifted apart and I had hoped one day I would get a chance to see her again. Sadly she passed away before that could happen. I hope in heaven she can see she is loved and remembered.
