She was born March 7, 1932, in Troutdale, Va. She was retired from Levi Strauss and was very well loved by her family and many friends. She attended Victory Baptist Church. Opal had a very generous heart and extended many kindnesses to her acquaintances. She had a well-deserved reputation as a wonderful cook and skilled seamstress. Her strong and independent spirit prompted her to earn her general equivalency diploma when she was nearing age 60.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edsel McQueen, who passed away in 1987; her parents, Charlie and Mattie Comer Blevins; sisters, Bertha Garland, and infants, Virginia Wave and Laura Ethel Blevins; and brothers, Reece, Paul, Harvey and Jesse Blevins.
Mrs. McQueen is survived by three children, Daniel McQueen and wife Polly of Shady Valley, Deborah Roy and husband Paul of Oneida, Tenn., and Perry McQueen of Shady Valley; one sister, Edith Mays of Millington, Mich.; grandchildren, Kim McQueen Henty and husband Mike, Andrea McQueen, Beth Roy Sampsel and husband Eric, Lauren Joy Roy Stone and husband Danny, Rob Roy, Amy McQueen Lewis and husband Matthew and Michael McQueen; and great-grandchildren, Ethan Sampsel, Elana Sampsel, Asa Lewis and Isaac Lewis.
The family will receive friends from 1 until 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 2, 2008, at Victory Baptist Church, Shady Valley, with the service to follow at 3 p.m., with Pastor Eddie Porter officiating, with music by Donald McAllister and Susan McQueen. Burial will follow in Gentry Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Rob Roy, Danny Stone, Eric Sampsel, Mike Henty, Matthew Lewis and Michael McQueen.
The family will also receive friends at the home, 197 Edsel McQueen Lane, Shady Valley.
