After George's Army service during WWII, he became an accountant and lived in Larchmont, Westchester County, New York. He and Virginia (Ginny) were married in September 1942 at the Little Church Around the Corner (Church of the Transfiguration on East 29th Street in Manhattan) and then had two children over the next five years. Virginia was killed in an automobile accident in 1950 when the children were very young and George did his best to raise them with the help of family. After retirement, he moved to Virginia to be closer to his daughter. He never remarried.
